New Book “The Language of Healing” Tackles the Patient Education Gap in Regenerative Medicine

The regenerative medicine industry has a communication problem, and it isn’t a scientific one. The field now broadly accepts that mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) exert their effects largely through paracrine signaling rather than engraftment and differentiation, a reframing captured in Arnold Caplan’s proposal to rename them “medicinal signaling cells.” What hasn’t matured is the public’s understanding of any of it.

Patients arrive at clinics having read everything and understood little. They’ve met miracle claims on one side, dense primary literature on the other, and a great deal of marketing engineered to blur the difference.
