I'm Not Sure I Want to Know

Over the past few months, since launching our MRI program in December, I’ve had numerous conversations with both patients and prospective patients.
Many of those conversations have centered on the value of advanced diagnostics, the power of combining comprehensive lab testing with full-body MRI, and the simple truth that knowing exactly what we are treating leads to better decisions and better outcomes than simply guessing.
But there is one response I did not expect to hear as often as I have, and it almost always comes up when the conversation turns to the full-body MRI scan:
“I’m not sure I want to know. I’m afraid you might find something.”
If you’ve ever had that thought, you’re not alone. In fact, many of the people reading this right now may feel exactly the same way.
And in some ways, that hesitation makes perfect sense. The idea of uncovering something serious can feel overwhelming. Sometimes it feels easier not to look at all.
But not knowing does not protect you. It only delays you.
And in medicine, delay is often what turns something manageable into something life-altering.
What We’re Seeing Every Day
At Longevity Medical Institute, we’re not speaking in theory. We’re seeing this play out every day.
Over the past year, we’ve completed more than 300 comprehensive lab panels. These aren’t routine blood tests. In our in-house clinical lab, we evaluate over 120 biomarkers, including oncologic markers, inflammation, metabolic health, cardiovascular risk, hormone balance, liver and kidney function, prostate health, and early disease indicators, in a way most people have never experienced.
Since launching our full-body MRI program just three months ago, we’ve already completed 92 full-body scans. When combined with ultrasound, ECG, and echocardiograms, we’re able to evaluate both structure and function across the entire body - I think we offer one of the most complete longevity assessments available anywhere.
We’re not just asking, “Is something there?” We’re asking, “How well is your body actually working?”
And what we continue to see reinforces one simple truth:
Early detection changes everything.
It can mean the difference between a minor intervention and a major diagnosis. Between something reversible and something permanent. Between preserving your quality of life and losing it.
The Value of Knowing
Our MRI protocols are designed to look carefully for early signs of disease, including cancer (with an OncoRad Scoring). In some cases, we have identified suspicious findings in patients who had no symptoms at all, allowing them to be referred quickly, diagnosed early, and treated before the disease had the chance to progress.
Just as importantly, many of the findings we uncover are not ultimately serious. We may see changes in the brain, degenerative findings, or abnormalities involving the liver, kidneys, heart, spine, uterus, prostate, and other areas that deserve a closer look. With the right follow-up testing, more serious possibilities can often be ruled out.
That is the value of looking deeper. Not to create fear, but to create clarity.
Most of the time, patients leave not with alarming news, but with answers, reassurance, and peace of mind. And because we turn MRI results around the same day or next day, you are not left waiting and worrying.

Let’s Think About This Logically
If you noticed a suspicious spot on your skin, would you ignore it and hope for the best?
Of course not.
You would want to know what it is. With a quick, noninvasive evaluation using our DermaSensor® device, we can assess, with 96% accuracy, whether a lesion is suspicious for skin cancer and help determine whether further action is needed.
Now take that same logic and apply it internally.
If something were developing inside your body, would you really want to wait until it caused symptoms or spread before finding it?
Because by the time many conditions begin to cause symptoms, they are often already further along. Just because you cannot see something does not make it less important. In many cases, it makes early detection even more important.
A small lesion. Early plaque buildup. Subtle inflammation. Even early-stage cancer. These things are often silent.
That is why the danger is not in knowing. The danger is in waiting.
MRI Anxiety
There is another concern I hear fairly often, and it has nothing to do with what we might find. It is anxiety about the MRI itself.
About 20% of the time, patients tell us they feel nervous about the scan, often because of claustrophobia or simply the anticipation of being inside the machine. That is completely understandable.
The good news is that we can help with this. Under physician guidance, we can provide Valium (and other medications) about 30-45 minutes beforehand to help patients feel calm and relaxed during the scan.
And among patients who chose that option, we have not had a single one who was unable to complete the MRI scan.
So whether the hesitation is about what the scan might reveal or concern about getting through the scan itself, both are real, both are understandable, and both can be addressed.
The Bigger Picture: Inflammation and Aging
At the root of nearly every chronic condition is one common factor: inflammation.
It often starts quietly. No pain. No obvious warning signs. But over time, it drives degeneration throughout the body. The medical term for chronic inflammation is "inflammaging," and we are currently under peer review at Springer Nature for a study on this very topic, which you can read here.
Here’s the key question:
Would you want to know if that process is already happening? Because once you know, you can do something about it.
You can adjust lifestyle, improve nutrition, address metabolic issues, and use regenerative therapies like stem cells and exosomes that support your body’s ability to repair and regulate itself.
Without that information, you’re guessing. And guessing is not a good strategy.
Why We Combine Labs and Imaging
No single test tells the full story. That’s why we combine advanced labs with imaging.
Imaging shows us structure. Labs show us function. Together, they give us clarity.
An abnormal lab might look concerning on its own. But when paired with imaging, we can determine whether it’s something serious or something common and manageable. And vice versa.
This is how you move from uncertainty to understanding.
Playing the Odds
Sometimes I also hear, “My parents lived to be in their 90s without doing any of this stuff, and they were fine.” And that may be true. But that’s not a plan. That’s an outlier.
The reality is that most people don’t get that outcome. And many spend their later years dealing with preventable decline, diminished quality of life, and unnecessary suffering.
Ignoring your health isn’t neutral. It’s a decision. It’s choosing not to look at the odds. And the odds matter.
The Real Question
Saying “I‘m afraid to know” is a very human response. But it doesn’t stop anything from happening inside your body. It only removes your ability to act early.
At Longevity Medical Institute, our goal is not to create fear. It’s to give you clarity.
Because early detection isn’t just about finding disease. It’s about preventing it. It’s about protecting your quality of life, your independence, and your future.
So the real question isn’t whether you’re afraid to know. It’s this:
If something could be treated, improved, slowed, or even prevented by finding it early…wouldn’t you want that opportunity?

Are Stem Cells Safe? What Our Published Research Concluded
Stem cell therapy has attracted tremendous attention over the last several years, and for good reason. Across a wide range of diseases and clinical conditions, published research has shown encouraging results, with many studies demonstrating the potential of stem cells. This growing body of research has created real hope for patients seeking options beyond the conventional sick-care model and surgery.

250 Billion New Cells Every Day
Every single day, your body replaces an extraordinary number of cells. Not thousands. Not millions. Hundreds of billions. On average, the human body replaces roughly 250 to 300 billion cells every 24 hours. That is approximately 3 to 4 million new cells every second.
