From the beginning, my goal for Longevity Medical Institute® has been to build a truly integrative and comprehensive model of longevity care. As we continue to evolve that model, there are times when one strategic addition can strengthen multiple areas at once.

This is exactly what this April mid-month newsletter represents.

We are advancing two important priorities simultaneously:

  • Sleep Medicine
  • In-Residence Medical Services

As our clinical model continues to grow, it becomes increasingly clear where the next opportunities lie. Two areas I have wanted to build out for some time are sleep medicine and in-residence medical services.

By bringing Dr. Patricia Laguna, MD onto our team, we are able to expand both of these areas at the same time under the leadership of one physician uniquely qualified to lead them.

“I have spent decades following my passion and developing my training across these specialties, and I believe there is no better fit than a multidisciplinary institute centered on longevity. I am able to contribute meaningfully to longevity-focused programs by integrating sleep optimization into comprehensive health strategies, while also extending my conventional medical training into the in-home care setting. This unique combination is part of what makes Longevity Medical Institute a truly world-class, integrative institute.”
- Dr. Patricia Laguna, MD

Welcoming Dr. Patricia Laguna, MD

We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Patricia Laguna, MD, as Chief of Sleep Medicine, Clinical Neuroscience, and In-Residence Medical Services.

Dr. Laguna brings a highly relevant and well-rounded background. She completed her medical degree at the University of Guadalajara, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine, and advanced clinical training in Neurology at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery and Hospital Civil de Guadalajara.

She has further specialized in sleep medicine, earning the distinction of International Diplomat in Sleep Medicine, and is currently completing her Master of Science in Sleep Medicine.

This combination of internal medicine, neurology, and sleep medicine allows her to evaluate sleep disorders within the broader context of neurological function, systemic health, recovery, and long-term brain health.

For our new in-residence medical services, what uniquely qualifies Dr. Laguna to lead is her extensive experience in internal medicine, emergency, and ICU care. As an emergency and ICU physician at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Los Cabos, she managed a wide range of acute and complex conditions, strengthening her clinical judgment and ability to respond effectively in dynamic situations.

Her experience caring for both local and international patients, combined with her fluency in English and Spanish, allows her to communicate clearly and effectively across a wide range of patient needs.

Why Sleep Matters More Than Most Realize

At Longevity Medical Institute®, we focus on improving how patients feel, function, and recover. Among all the factors that influence those outcomes, sleep is one of the most important and one of the most overlooked.

Sleep is not passive. It is one of the body’s most active and essential repair processes.

It is when the brain resets, hormones rebalance, inflammation can decrease, and the body carries out many of its most critical restorative functions. When sleep is compromised, nearly every system is affected.

Poor sleep impacts energy, mood, cognitive health, memory, mental clarity, immune function, metabolism, cardiovascular health, pain levels, and overall recovery capacity. It can also limit how well patients respond to advanced therapies.

Sleep is also deeply connected to long-term brain health. Poor sleep has been associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline and neurodegenerative conditions, and other forms of age-related neurological dysfunction. As patients get older, this becomes even more important, since both sleep disruption and neurodegenerative risk increase with age.

During healthy sleep, the brain supports neurological repair and helps regulate many of the processes that protect cognitive function over time. When that process is repeatedly disrupted, the effects may go far beyond fatigue, influencing memory, clarity, mood, and long-term brain resilience. This is where Dr. Laguna’s background in neurology adds even greater value, allowing us to evaluate sleep not only as a recovery tool, but also as an important part of supporting cognitive health and healthy aging.

Many patients are doing the right things, exercising, eating well, and investing in therapies, yet still not achieving the results they expect because sleep has not been properly addressed.

Sleep disorders are also frequently underdiagnosed. Symptoms are often attributed to stress or aging, when there may be an underlying issue that requires proper evaluation.

By integrating sleep medicine into our model, we are directly strengthening one of the most critical drivers of health and recovery. When sleep improves, everything else often improves.

Advanced Sleep Diagnostics and Treatment, Reimagined

Sleep testing has evolved. Traditional in-lab studies can be uncomfortable, restrictive, and disruptive to natural sleep, often affecting the very results they are meant to capture. At Longevity Medical Institute®, we take a more modern and patient-centered approach by offering both Peripheral Arterial Tone, or PAT, testing for convenient at-home sleep screening and polysomnography, or PSG, for more advanced and comprehensive analysis.

PAT testing allows you to sleep naturally in your own bed without wires, masks, or restrictive equipment. Using advanced technology that measures physiological responses to sleep disturbances, it captures key data such as AHI, RDI, oxygen saturation, heart rate, sleep stages, snoring, movement, and body position. Clinically validated against PSG, PAT provides a highly reliable and practical first step in identifying sleep-related issues.

For patients who require a deeper level of evaluation, PSG offers the most comprehensive assessment of sleep. As the traditional gold standard, it provides detailed insight into neurological activity, respiratory patterns, and complex sleep conditions, allowing for a more advanced level of diagnosis when needed.

But our approach goes far beyond diagnosing sleep apnea and prescribing CPAP. If we identify hormone imbalance, structural airway issues, or broader recovery and nervous system dysfunction as part of your picture, we address those layers as part of a more complete, personalized strategy. This may include hormone optimization, targeted peptide support, such as our Delta Sleep (DSIP) protocols, and sleep-supportive formulations, such as our Sleep and Calm Revive supplements.

Emerging research also suggests hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may support sleep quality, particularly when sleep disturbance is tied to broader neurologic, inflammatory, or recovery-related dysfunction.

We also use sleep testing as an ongoing tool, allowing us to monitor treatment effectiveness over time and refine your plan based on objective data as your health evolves.

Sleep Apnea Surgical Options

For patients with structural airway concerns, advanced solutions are available through our surgical team, led by Dr. Luis Romero, ENT and facial plastic surgeon. Procedures may include correcting a deviated septum, reducing enlarged nasal tissues, addressing tonsils when appropriate, and supporting or reshaping airway structures to improve breathing during sleep. In select cases, more advanced interventions may address jaw or tongue positioning to help maintain airway stability throughout the night.

The result is a modern, flexible, and fully integrated approach to sleep health, combining advanced diagnostics with personalized treatment strategies to improve sleep, recovery, and long-term performance.

Elevating the Patient Experience with In-Residence Medical Services

Clinical excellence is essential, but how care is delivered matters just as much. At Longevity Medical Institute®, providing an A+ patient experience is part of our standard.

In-Residence Medical Services are a natural extension of that philosophy. Equally important, having an Internal Medicine, ER, and ICU-trained physician lead this service ensures that convenience is supported by strong clinical judgment, safety, and conventional medical expertise.

For some patients, receiving care in the clinic is not always the most practical option, particularly when a medical condition limits mobility. In other cases, the priority may be privacy, convenience, and efficiency. There are also situations in which more immediate medical needs are best addressed promptly with conventional medical support.

By bringing care directly to a patient’s home or hotel, with 24/7 availability, we can extend the same high standard of care beyond the clinic setting. This approach allows for greater comfort, flexibility, accessibility, and discretion while preserving the clinical oversight and personalized attention that define the patient experience.

In-Residence Services Include:

  • IV stem cell and exosome therapies*
  • Peptides, vitamins, and hydration drips
  • Lab blood draws*
  • Ultrasound evaluation*
  • Conventional medical evaluations and treatment
  • Prescription medications, when appropriate

* Available only during normal clinic hours

Together, these services create a more seamless and responsive continuum of care, giving patients access to both advanced longevity therapies and conventional medical support in the setting that best suits their needs.

Another important advantage of choosing us for in-home care is that our team, in most cases, already knows you. Through prior consultations, lab testing, MRI imaging, and personalized treatment protocols, we often have a detailed understanding of your health status and care plan before we ever arrive. Unlike a traditional house-call physician who may be seeing you with limited background information and experience, we are able to deliver care with continuity, context, and confidence. The result is a higher level of personalization, safety, and efficiency, with care that feels truly connected rather than fragmented.

In a destination like Los Cabos, where many patients value discretion and a highly personalized experience, this service becomes a meaningful differentiator. It reflects our ability to deliver advanced regenerative and longevity medicine with the added reassurance, convenience, safety, and clinical support of traditional medical care.

A Strategic Evolution

What makes this addition so impactful is that it strengthens two critical areas at once.

It reinforces recovery through sleep optimization, and it elevates the patient experience through in-residence care.

This is not an incremental change. It is a meaningful step forward in how we deliver care.

We are building an integrated system where every part of the model works together to improve outcomes, enhance recovery, support cognitive and neurological health, and elevate the overall patient experience.

With the addition of Dr. Laguna, MD, our specialist team now includes 13 physicians, further strengthening the depth and capability of our clinical model.

That is how we believe the future of medicine should be delivered, and how better outcomes are achieved.

I'm Not Sure I Want to Know

Over the past few months, since launching our MRI program in December, I’ve had numerous conversations with both patients and prospective patients.

Are Stem Cells Safe? What Our Published Research Concluded

Are Stem Cells Safe? What Our Published Research Concluded

Stem cell therapy has attracted tremendous attention over the last several years, and for good reason. Across a wide range of diseases and clinical conditions, published research has shown encouraging results, with many studies demonstrating the potential of stem cells. This growing body of research has created real hope for patients seeking options beyond the conventional sick-care model and surgery.

250 Billion New Cells Every Day

250 Billion New Cells Every Day

Every single day, your body replaces an extraordinary number of cells. Not thousands. Not millions. Hundreds of billions. On average, the human body replaces roughly 250 to 300 billion cells every 24 hours. That is approximately 3 to 4 million new cells every second.
